Review
When I decided to take a course in University of Nottingham, I had no actual information regarding the accommodations available here. With the limited time I had before the terms began, I spent hours looking through the options only to find myself still uncertain about my choices. Having to choose quickly, I decided to make a contract with Raleigh Park, a self-catered site. So today, I would like to share with you my experience in Raleigh Park to better understand one of the options.
I picked up the Standard + room of all the options available in Raleigh Park. Since the total cost difference was around 132 pounds, I figured a bigger bed would be nice. Picking a standard or standard + would mean that you are sharing your flat amongst the six of you. There would be 2 bathrooms available, which I find sufficient for the 6 of us. The flatmates you would be paired up with is completely random so you can expect to meet different kinds of people. Though if you have some special request, say a quieter environment for you third years or masters to focus on with your study, you could write that down as you apply for the accommodation.
Raleigh Park is very social accommodation with events and parties to occur at the very least twice in a month. This is a good opportunity for those of you who are starting out their first year and looking to find new friends in your brand new university life. Expect the first two to three weeks to be filled with flat parties and random people screaming outside your window. This would not last long though, it diminishes over time and would start to quiet down as everyone starts to prep for their studies and upcoming coursework.
From time to time, there will be events and giveaways from Raleigh Park. Be sure to take note of the dates in posters on your noticeboards. No one can say no to some free pizzas! Emails are also worth reading, free Raleigh Park hoodies and T-shirts of previous years were being given out and the only notice was through their email. Other promo and event pamphlets are always handed to each flat, so be sure to check out the pile from time to time.
Overall, it is a great accommodation to pick up if you would like to meet new people in your first year. There would be noise issues from time to time, but nothing a set of headphones can’t fix. Definitely recommended for those of you with Jubilee as your main campus.
Tips
Since I picked up the Standard +, my bed size is slightly bigger to accommodate for my “messy” sleeping behaviour. A note that I could give to you when you pick up your bedding (No bedding included unfortunately) is to look for something with the dimensions of 120 x190 cm so that it would fit nicely. As for the Duvet, if you have no clue what the Tog is, it is the thermal resistance measurement. They would normally offer from a range of 10 to 15, 10 being the least and 15 being the hottest. So far, I find that 13.5 suits me best as it is not that hot for normal days and not too cold on cold days. This is entirely up to you as only you know how well you can adapt to the environment
NB
Single bed size – 90 x 190 cm
¾ bed size – 120 x 190 cm
